Motorola Moto G5S Plus Review : Smartphone Designed Premium with Dual Camera

In the smartphone market, Lenovo currently oversees two major brands, namely Lenovo and Motorola. Both are quite active in the release of quite a lot of smartphones in various classes. Lenovo recently launched a number of new Motorola smartphone, one of which is Motorola Moto G5S Plus.

Motorola Moto G5S Plus is a smartphone that eyeing the middle class. Sold at a price of just 2 million, Moto G5S Plus has a number of very interesting features in its class. So what are the advantages? Check out our reviews below.

Metal Body with Premium Design

Although sold at a price that is quite affordable, but the Moto G5S Plus is far from cheap impression. Moto G5S Plus uses a body made of metal that makes it look premium and sturdy. The design is at first glance similar to some other Motorola smartphones like Moto Z2 Play and Moto E4. The body itself is quite thin with a thickness of about 8mm. Bezel flanking this screen feels a bit thick, but overall this smartphone is still comfortable gripped with one hand.

At the front, there is a fingerprint scanner button located at the bottom of the screen (where the regular Home button resides). Moto G5S Plus is not equipped with navigation buttons because it uses the virtual buttons on the screen. For fingerprints, you keep using the physical buttons below the screen.

This smartphone has two SIM card nano slots. However, the second SIM slot is a hybrid slot. That is, the second slot can be used to install the nano SIM or microSD card at a time. So you have to choose one of them only.
5.5 inch sharp IPS display

5.5-inch screen owned by Moto G5S Plus comes with Full HD 1080 x 1920 pixel resolution. This screen uses the IPS panel so it has a wide viewing angle. The screen quality is also adequate for a variety of content. In addition to sharp, the resulting color is also very good and convenient views.

When used outdoors any, Moto G5S Plus's screen is still comfortable to look at. When shooting outdoors during the day, for example, the screen of this phone remains clearly visible. Moto G5S Plus also has a brightness adjustment automatically which will adjust to the ambient lighting conditions. When tried, the light sensor is quite accurate.

Bokeh Effect with Depth Sensor

As the trend increasingly popular lately, Moto G5S Plus is also equipped with dual rear camera. But, the camera's dual rear camera configuration is quite unique. Typically, a dual camera has a standard lens and a wide telephoto or lens lens. But in Moto G5S Plus, there is only one main camera that uses f / 2.0 lens with 13 megapixel sensor. While the camera is both a depth sensor with the same resolution to detect the dimensions of the photo.

In depth enabled mode, the camera is effective enough to create images with a convincing bokeh effect. Not always accurate, but if the distance between the subject and the background is quite fitting then the bokeh effect is quite okay. Like the example photo below.

Interestingly, the dual camera on Moto G5s Plus is not only used to create the bokeh effect but also to do the selection on the desired object so that it can be combined with other photos as in the example below.

It should be noted, the use of Depth Enabled mode makes the performance of the camera slows down quite drastically, especially in low light conditions. In addition to more difficult to determine the focus, the image is also more vulnerable to blur.

Great Camera Main Result

The quality of the photos from the Moto G5S Plus camera is pretty good. In bright light conditions, the photograph has a good sharpness with the right color saturation. When used in ideal lighting conditions, the camera can work fast enough while taking a picture.

But as the quality of light decreases, its performance also slows down. There is a long pause since the shutter button is pressed until the finished picture is taken which has the potential to cause a blur or shake effect if you do not hold the smartphone stable. Moreover, the lens is also not equipped with OIS (optical image stabilization).

The photos for low light conditions are still pretty good, with considerable noise in very dark areas. Keep in mind, with a shutter lag that reaches 1-2 seconds, the hand must remain stable after pressing the snap button so that the image does not blur.

Quick Performance with the Plain Android UI

Moto G5S Plus is powered by Qualcomm's 625 octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 2GHz chipset and 4GB of RAM. Its performance is fast for everyday needs such as messaging, game play, or social media. Moreover, Moto G5S Plus is also using Android 7.1 Nougat plain very minimal bloatware so that makes the performance more light.

Snapdragon 625 chipset does have a very good performance in the middle class. We try to run popular MOBA games like Arena of Valor and Mobile Legends. All can run smoothly and smoothly, and have a very good visual. Similarly, other applications we try on smartphones can also run well and quickly.

With large RAM capacity, multitasking or running multiple applications at once can be done well. Menu navigation is also smooth, thanks to plain Android OS without additional UI. From our tests, the performance of Moto G5s Plus is above the average Android phone in its price class.

TurboPower for Faster Battery Charge

Moto G5S Plus has a battery with a capacity of 3,000 mAh. With this 3000mAh battery, G5S Plus can last about 12 hours with standard usage patterns (browsing, shooting, chatting, playing games regularly). Battery charging is also supported with TurboPower technology to charge this battery quickly.

We also try to charge this smartphone battery using TurboCharger given in the sales package, and the battery can be fully charged in about 1 hour. During the charging process, the smartphone will feel hotter when compared to when charging using a regular charger that does not support TurboCharger.

Conclusion

Lenovo presents a very interesting smartphone through this Motorola Moto G5S Plus. With an affordable price during the promotion period, Moto G5S Plus has a value greater than the price. The body is made of metal feels very steady when gripped. Moreover, the design is minimalist and elegant make it feel luxurious. The rear camera also has good quality. With additional depth sensors, then you can take pictures with a more creative bokeh effect.

Plus, Moto G5S Plus has a fast performance with the use of Snapdragon 625 chipset and 4GB RAM. The 3,000 mAh battery with TurboPower support is also sufficient to accompany your day's activities.

Then for whom Motorola Moto G5S Plus? For those of you looking for a midrange smartphone with fast performance, a row of sophisticated features, a hurried minimalist menu, and an above-average camera, Moto G5s Plus is a must-see option.
